Vancouver General Hospital Prostate Cancer Research
Prostate cancer is a leading cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. By understanding the reasons for treatment resistance in advanced prostate cancer and translating that into new products and treatments, the Vancouver Prostate Centre is focused on improving longevity and quality of life for patients in BC, and around the world.
Safe Society Women's Shelter
The Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (SAFE) was established in 1979 by a group of women in the community who recognized the need for a women’s shelter/safe haven for women experiencing violence in the home.Shuswap Hospital Foundation
The purpose of the Shuswap Hospital Foundation is to accept, manage and disburse funds and properties to the benefit of Shuswap Health Services. This entity includes Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Bastion Place, (a residential care facility) and Community Care Services. Funds are used to help meet the need for priority equipment and facilities that will enhance the care of patients and residents of these health care facilities and services.Shane Gorner Endowment Fund
The family of Shane Gorner established a memorial scholarship fund with the Shuswap Community Foundation. On an annual basis the Shane Gorner Memorial Bursary is given to a Grade 12 student attending Salmon Arm Senior Secondary School who:
- demonstrates talent and achievement in the arts, particularly the performing arts, visual arts or music
- is a person with strong academic ability although not necessarily a top academic achiever
- intends to pursue post-secondary studies or training in the arts or in a field related to the arts
- is a person of good character and who exhibits Shane’s qualities of optimism, maturity and dedication to his artistic pursuits
- has need of financial assistance
